28 Jan INTER A.I. pioneer: Michael Wollny, jazz

EN
Michael Wollny. A jazz pianist, he has been a professor at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig since 2014. Since 2022, he has served as Artist in Residence at the EPFL Lausanne College of Humanities, where he collaborates with Martin Rohrmeier’s Digital and Cognitive Musicology Lab to explore how improvisation actually works. In the Arte documentary *Die Zukunft der Musik* (2025), he improvises alongside a co-creative system; the film takes viewers through the laboratories where this technology is being developed—from IRCAM in Paris and EPFL to the Ars Electronica Futurelab. Improvisation is the realm where the least can be delegated, because decisions are made in the moment and cannot be corrected by a second attempt. That is precisely where Wollny has performed with a machine.

Michael Wollny.

As part of the MA INTER project Ars Augmentata (wise 2026/27) Michael Wollny is invited for an A.I. Expert Session. He will give a talk and do a workshop.
