Hannes Koch, Random International. Koch co-founded the studio in London in 2005 with Florian Ortkrass. It gained renown in 2012 with *Rain Room*—a space of constant downpour where visitors remain dry because sensors detect their movements and pause the rain directly above them. In *Swarm Studies* and more recent works, the studio creates systems that perceive and behave, placing people inside the work rather than in front of it. Here, machine perception is not merely an effect but the very material itself. What emerges does so only through the act of encounter, and no one—not even the creators—has complete control over it.

Hannes Koch, Random International. Koch gründete das Studio 2005 mit Florian Ortkrass in London. Bekannt wurde es 2012 mit dem Rain Room, einem Raum im Dauerregen, in dem man trocken bleibt, weil Sensoren die eigene Bewegung erkennen und den Regen darüber aussetzen. In den Swarm Studies und den jüngeren Arbeiten baut das Studio Systeme, die wahrnehmen und sich verhalten, und stellt Menschen hinein statt davor. Maschinelle Wahrnehmung ist hier kein Effekt, sondern das Material. Was dabei entsteht, entsteht erst in der Begegnung, und niemand kontrolliert es vollständig, auch die Urheber nicht.
As part of the MA INTER project Ars Augmentata (wise 2026/27) Hannes Koch is invited for an A.I. Expert Session. He will give a talk and do a workshop.
