Digital technologies are changing how our own bodies and the bodies of others are represented, perceived, designed and experienced. These technologies include social media, digital health applications, smart city technologies, wearables, virtual reality, and other applications of so-called artificial intelligence. They are shaping not only our everyday lives, but also societal understandings of identity, health, embodiment, and participation. At the same time, digital technologies themselves are increasingly becoming embodied – for example, when the design of chatbots or robots are attributed human characteristics. These developments raise questions of gender equality, diversity, and accessibility, as well as issues of data protection and responsibility towards society as a whole.
The hackathon Bodies in Digital Context, organised by the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF), will bring together up to 100 students from 7 Berlin universities (UdK, TU, FU, HU, Charité, BHT & HTW), to work in interdisciplinary teams on projects that they themselves define and develop.
You will: Explore questions at the intersection of digitalization, bodies, gender and diversity from different disciplinary perspectives; apply methods from your respective disciplines to investigate socially relevant questions; reflect on the opportunities, challenges, and potential impacts of technologies on different groups of people; and jointly develop and present innovative approaches to solutions and findings.
